Thanks for letting me know what I was, Mary Jane! I never figured it out. The hat involved a custom-crocheted cap with all the fluff on it, attached to an old gardening hat (for shade).

Meg, *your* wings were undoubtedly classier (and might have been easier to ride in: these will need some modification before I'd ride 17 miles in them again--although they did work). The hat involved me (foundation work: locating garden hat and crocheting a mesh to fit its crown) and my daughter (adding the ribbons and fluff to the mesh). All last-minute.
