Two for two: ForeWord Book of the Year Award finalists

Both of the books that we published at Nomad Press in 2006 were recently selected as finalists in the Book of the Year Award competition sponsored by ForeWord magazine.

ForeWord is the only review publication that covers independently published books exclusively. In ForeWord’s definition, an independent publisher is anyone other than the conglomerates (most of the New York publishing houses are components of a small number of international conglomerates). These independents include all the publishing entities from university presses to an individual with an idea (we're close to the latter, although we have more than one idea).

Our 2006 titles are two of the twelve finalists in the Crafts & Hobbies category. They are:

Arctic Lace: Knitting Projects and Stories Inspired by Alaska's Native Knitters by Donna Druchunas

and

Spinning in the  Old Way: How (and Why) To Make Your Own Yarn with a High-Whorl Spindle, by Priscilla A. Gibson-Roberts

Winners will be announced at BookExpo  America in  New York City this June.

I think that's pretty good for a very small handful of very determined people.

We’ve applied for a few other competitions this season, but the other preliminary results haven’t been announced yet.
